So you want Mobile Internet - It's simple, It's easy!

1. What is Mobile Internet?

Mobile Internet refers to an internet service that you can access with your mobile phone and enjoy on the go.

To use Mobile Internet services, you must have an internet-enabled mobile handset, sufficient Data balance or Real Credit balance, and the mobile data connection must be turned on. The Access Point Name should be configured to “internet”. To use 4G services, one must have a 4G-capable device and be in a 4G coverage area. To use 3G services, one must have a 3G-capable device and be in a 3G coverage area.

2. How can I access the Internet on my phone?


  1. Ensure that you have a mobile internet-enabled handset that supports the frequency bands offered by Vodafone PNG and that the device has been setup with our mobile internet configurations. The Access Point Name (APN) should be configured to “internet”.
  2. Dial *777# or use the MyVodafone App and subscribe to any of our great mobile data plans.
  3. Sufficient Real Credit balance is required in your mobile account in order to subscribe to Mobile Data Plans from *777# or MyVodafone App. If you do not have enough Real Credit, you may need to TopUp your account.
  4. After subscribing to a mobile data plan, dial *120# or use the MyVodafone App to check your data balance.
  5. When data has been successfully loaded, go to your device’s Settings and turn on your "Mobile Data" connection.
  6. That's it! You're now ready to surf the internet, send emails, post/share on social media, play games, and stream music and videos on your Mobile Phone!


3. What are the frequency bands offered by Vodafone PNG?

  • 3G – B1 (2100Mhz)
  • 4G/4G+ – B3 (1800Mhz) and B28 (700Mhz)

4. What kind of phone do I need to use for internet services?

Any phone that supports internet connectivity and Web browsing will allow you to use our Internet services. The best phone would be a 4G or 4G+ smartphone.

5. What services do I need on my phone to start using Mobile Internet?

A data plan with Sufficient Data Balance or Real Credit, and a Web browser or Internet-based OTT App.

6. What are the charges for the service?

7. How can I TopUp to get access to the Internet?

Purchase a TopUp card or voucher, and Dial *121# and follow the instructions to TopUp.

TopUp can be done using Hard Cards, Electronic Vouchers from retail stores across PNG which includes Supermarkets, Service Stations, Kai Bars, Tucker Boxes, Convenience stores, Mom and Pop shops, Homeware and Hardware stores.

8. Are there any hidden charges that I should know about?

There are no hidden charges, however if you purchase any item or content on the Internet, there will be charges that apply for those items. These charges may not be charged by Vodafone PNG.

9. How can I find out how much of my credit has been used?

If you are a prepaid customer, you may check and monitor your balance by dialling *120# or using the MyVodafone App.

If you are a postpaid customer, you will be notified on your monthly bill or you could use the MyVodafone App.

10. Coverage - Where can I use it?

Wherever Vodafone has coverage / reception, you will have access to the Internet. This could be based in 3G/4G and 4G+ coverage areas.

Customers will have higher access speeds by using a 4G+ smartphone and getting connected to a 4G+ coverage base station.

11. Can I use my phone as a modem to access the internet on my laptop/PC?

Some selected phones may be able to support wired tethering however this feature may be disabled on most phones. Alternatively, most smartphones do support wireless hotspot tethering.

12. Do I get charged for accessing or browsing the Vodafone Website or MyVodafone App?

No. Browsing the Vodafone Website or MyVodafone App App will be free however any content you download or Internet links you browse outside these sites/apps will be charged as per the above charges.

13. What are the internet settings I need on my phone?


If you have purchased the phone from any Vodafone retail shop, the internet settings will already be configured.

b. If you have purchased the phone from any other vendor, you will need to configure and setup your phone's internet APN settings. The Access Point Name should be configured to “internet”.

An Access Point Name (APN) is a communications gateway between a user’s device and the internet. The following steps can guide you to setup an APN however may vary for different operating systems:

APN Setup:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Connections or Mobile Data or Internet settings
  3. Go to Mobile Networks or Mobile Data Network
  4. Go to Access Point Names
  5. If you have a Dual-SIM phone, Select either SIM 1 or SIM 2
  6. Select “Add” or the “+” sign.
  7. Enter “VF PNG” in the Name section.
  8. Enter “internet” in the APN section.
  9. Save the APN.
  10. Enable the “VF PNG” APN profile.

14. Can I access any Instant Messaging or Social Networking sites and applications

If your phone has a WAP/WEB Browser, accessing social networking websites will be possible.

If you are able to install apps on your phone, you may be able to download and install Instant Messaging apps to enable you to use this service. Apps are available from Google PlayStore for Android, App Store for iPhones and AppGallery for Huawei HMS smartphones.
